An Extraordinary Day

I had a wonderful day with my oldest grandson. We started out with his Daddy buying us breakfast, so that was good. I got home, did some long put off chores, but took breaks to build a huge Lego staircase, watch George, have conversations about fish, water, and other important topics. Then we TRIED to take a nap and wasted a 1 1/2 hours of our lives trying to sleep. But every time I tried to be sleeping, I turned into a dinosaur or a shark and scared the sly leprechaun who was staring through my eyelids. It ended up inevitably with someone, (not me) jumping on the bed. After that it was a free for all, so we went downstairs meaning to go see Daddy, but ended up playing soccer with some of the kids in the neighborhood. Finally, we went in to dry off and warm up with Hot cocoa, and there was Myta! It was the first time in a while that Jiro begged to stay with Grandma. He's usually ready for Mom by then, but I guess he had as much fun as I did. I ♥ U, Jirito!

On her way to work one morning
Down the path along side the lake
A tender hearted woman saw a poor half frozen snake
His pretty colored skin had been all frosted with the dew
"Poor thing," she cried, "I'll take you in and I'll take care of you"

"Take me in tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman," sighed the snake

She wrapped him all cozy in a comforter of silk
And laid him by her fireside with some honey and some milk
She hurried home from work that night and soon as she arrived
She found that pretty snake she'd taken to had been revived

"Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman," sighed the snake

She clutched him to her bosom, "You're so beautiful," she cried
"But if I hadn't brought you in by now you might have died"
She stroked his pretty skin again and kissed and held him tight
Instead of saying thanks, the snake gave her a vicious bite

"Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman," sighed the snake

"I saved you," cried the woman "And you've bitten me, but why?
You know your bite is poisonous and now I'm going to die"
"Oh shut up, silly woman," said the reptile with a grin
"You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in.

"Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman," sighed the snake

“Come on in you pretty snake…
Come on in, yeah, come on in you pretty snake…

Commercials

There are commercials we hate.  Some I hate so much that I refuse to go to that store, establishment, restaurant EVER just because I hate their commercials.  I think this mostly happens with commercials who have dumb people in them.  I take them to mean that dumb people go to their stores, etc.  And I'm afraid someone might see me going in them and say behind their hand to their BFF, "Look how dumb she is, she goes to the dumb peoples store!"

Right.  So an example:

SONIC:  A man (I base that on short hair and the type of his shirt, not on what I would deem manly qualities) is insulting the woman in the car with him with comments of how studly he is and how people think her sweater looks like something his mother would wear and thus no one would ever think the two of them were "together".  There's more, but I have no interest in repeating it.  But I do say, "DON'T eat at Sonic.  EVER."  I don't care that they no longer are running that commercial.  If they think we are dumb enough to eat at their fast food place by watching a commercial like that, then we prove them right!

So what kind of commercials are acceptable?  Ones with kitties and babies and nice and kind people.  Like Dari-Queen.  How can you resist a grown man blowing bubbles with kittens in them?  And then he catches them so they can't get hurt when the bubble bursts.  Really cute kittens.  The fact that I LOVE Heath Bar Blizzards has nothing to do with me checking online to see what time they close. (It's early, so be aware.)

I have more, I may or may not follow in this vein on the next post.  But I definitely would like to have anyone share their favorite and/or hateable commercials.

I know this puts a lot of pressure on the four of you out there. But I'm counting on you.  I have seven sisters and not one of them is following me.  Isn't that beyond sad?

An Untimely Post

A friend just sent me notice of a blogpost via FB.  Of course I thought of my neglected blog and decided to start a thread that had come into my head last night.  So of course I expect all FOUR of my followers to chime in and read and PARTICIPATE!!!

I was shocked to find out that it has almost been a year since I last blogged.  Amazing how fast time passes when you are so BUSY!!!  And having fun, too.  Of course since I have such overwhelming response to my blogs, it makes it hard to ignore them.  But I manage. <enter snarky, sarcastic voice here.>

Ah well, away I go.  I will progress on to my next post which is the real post...

Time in a Bottle

I was sitting in my very large, old, creaky wooden rocking chair. It fits me well, but the more industrious the rock, the louder the creak.  Eli and I had just come in from our car ride, a ride just not quite long enough to put him thoroughly into the land of nod.  I had watched him briefly wiggle and squirm, much more like one of the worms than of the ducky he resembled in his soft yellow jammies with the golden webbed feet.  He stretched once more and I lifted him up in my arms, looked 'round and decided the dishes could wait yet again, while the two of us took a break.  So I settled in my old chair, old in style as well as wear and rocked as gently as I could to prevent or at least to muffle the racket the old chair made as it moved back and forth.

The little wiggly body softened as we moved, then relaxed.  A little pudgy hand released it's fist on the upper arm of my sweatshirt.  Eli's soft downy head held in my hand slowly sunk onto my shoulder until I was no longer supporting it with my hand, instead it was supporting me with it's warmth.  We rocked 'til the chair began to sing, so I slowed and the chair quieted. The little worm in Eli began to emerge, so I rocked a little faster and the chair sang louder. Baby ducky once again laid his head upon my shoulder... until I could no longer hear the little baby sounds, only the melody of the old rocking chair.

As I sat rocking, the creaky chair carrying me off with it's lullaby, my mind wandered off and I began to wonder at the absolute peace of a baby.  A deep rush of emotion came over me and a vow I have made to many babies before became a promise to Eli as well; To the best of my ability baby grandson of mine, I will always be here for you. I promise.

The Mommy Blues

The year Tara turned 15 she babysat all summer and compiled quite a nest egg. Sometime in August I ordered a pizza and it turned out the pizza guy no longer accepted checks, so I asked Tara to loan me twenty dollars. When Tara told me she had no money left I asked her what she had spent it on. She proceeded to hem and haw, but would give me no solid answer. Frustrated, I got the pizza man to take my check and then proceeded to grill her about where the money went and the importance of not wasting it.

A few weeks later we celebrated our wedding anniversary and (you are getting the drift, aren't you?) Tara presented us with a small, lightweight, beautifully wrapped box. What do you suppose was in the box? Of course, two tickets to the Moody Blues who were playing at the University of San Diego. Tara said, "Mom, that is what I spent my babysitting money on!" I am crying yet again at the retelling of this story. One, that my 15 year old was so unselfish (as she was supposed to be at that age). And two, that I still forget at times how wonderful she is and how lucky I am to have the children that I do. As I said, not my finest hour. My finest hours have been the ones spent with them.
